Qualche tempo fa trovai su Discogs un album veramente raro di Varunna, un cd-r chiamato “Feuer!”. Ho contattato immediatamente Alessio per saperne di più e questo è quello che mi raccontò…gli inizi della storia di Varunna.

Non ricordo che lavoretto facevo n quegli anni, forse nelle cucine di un ospedale ortopedico o forse in una gelateria.era la Bologna della fine degli anni 90, pensavo alla figa e pensavo a suonare e pensavo a sopravvivere. Studiavo al Dams. Non studiavo. Avevo un campionatore, una chitarra, un tamburo, un letto ed un bagno. Tairy aveva appna pubblicato qualcosa, c’era un intro d una certa Faita Jansen, una canzone di protesta in tedesco contro l’energia atomica mi pare. Mi girava in testa, decisi di farne una cover. C’era anche Ferrari. Avevamo un cd di campionamenti bellici appena arrivato, l’aveva spedito Albin.  Non sapevamo il tedesco e non ce ne fregava un cazzo, la registrammo  da me, io e Ferrari, con due voci, una chiarra e un tamburo. Aggiungemmo qualcosa, tipo un’antiaerea (che stave bene ovunque…). Nacque Feuer! (in seguito Fuoco!). In quei tempi frequentavo “Decontrol”,  un amico che al tempo aveva un negozo di cd e facevail DJ in un locale alla moda, mi dava I suoni/campioni industrial e io li mischiavo con la chitarra.   Albin mi chiese di registrar qualcosa, io  entrai in studio, ne usci fuori una cosa che non piaceva ne a me ne a lui. Altri mi proposero di pubblicarla. Mi rifiutai. È stato l’inizio della storia di Varunna.

Couple of years ago I found on Discogs a very rare cd of Varunna, a cd-r called “Feuer ! ”.  I immediately contact Alessio to know more about it and later he told me the story…this story…the begins of Varunna.

I don’t remember what I was doing in those years, perhaps in the kitchens of an orthopedic hospital or perhaps in an ice cream parlor. It was the Bologna of the late 90s. I was only thinking about pussy, playing and surviving. I was studying at Dams. I didn’t real study. I had a sampler, a guitar, drum, bed and a bathroom. Tairy had just published something, there was an intro by a certain Faita Jansen, a protest song in German against atomic energy, I think. It was spinning in my head. I decided to cover it. There was also A. Ferrari and we had a CD of war samples just arrived, Albin have sent it. We didn’t know German and we didn’t give a shit, we recorded it by ourselves, me and A. Ferrari, with two voices, guitar and a drum. We added something, like an air alarm (which looked good everywhere…). “Feuer!”was born! (later Fire!). In those days I used to go to “Decontrol”, a friend who at the time had a cd shop and DJ in a trendy club, gave me the industrial sounds / samples and I mixed them with the guitar. Albin asked me to record something, I went into the studio, something came  out that neither I nor he liked. Others propose to publish it. I refused. It was the beginning of the history of Varunna.
